Hydraulic Bollards
Retractable hydraulic bollards manage vehicle access while retaining a clear route when lowered. They suit entrances where access control and the physical streetscape need to work together.
How the system works.
A typical functional arrangement, explained from the first input to the final operating state.

Presence / lane-clear input

- C6Position feedback
Raised / lowered state
From input to action.
- 01
Detect the approaching vehicle
A configured loop detector or other presence sensor identifies a vehicle at the controlled entrance.
- 02
Validate the access request
A reader or authorised operator sends a request to the control panel. An access request alone does not move the bollard.
- 03
Check the configured interlocks
The controller evaluates lane occupancy, emergency inputs and other connected safety conditions before issuing a movement command.
- 04
Lower the bollard
The hydraulic valves and actuator control the post as it retracts into its below-ground housing. The exact lowering method depends on the model.
- 05
Allow passage and confirm clearance
The lowered position is confirmed where feedback is provided. The vehicle passes; the configured detectors establish that the movement zone is clear.
- 06
Raise and return to the secure state
The hydraulic pump supplies pressure to extend the post. Position feedback, where fitted, indicates the raised state to the controller.
This explains a typical operating principle, not a specification for a particular model. Final devices, interfaces, safety logic and acceptance criteria are confirmed during project design.
Where it fits
Controlled vehicle entrances at airports, courts and institutional premises.
Plan the right configuration
Assess vehicle types, foundation depth, drainage, operating frequency and emergency procedures. Specify any impact rating from verified model certification.
Completed project note
A practical project perspective.
Hydraulic bollards were included in the completed premises security orders. Individual quantities, models and impact ratings were not supplied.

Before you specify.
What should be included in a hydraulic bollards enquiry?
Assess vehicle types, foundation depth, drainage, operating frequency and emergency procedures. Specify any impact rating from verified model certification. Include the general site context, intended use and expected timeline.
Are all configurations and capabilities the same?
No. The model, software configuration and integration scope determine the available features. Confirm specifications and acceptance criteria for your project before procurement.
